Photoacoustic imaging has shown great promise as a non-invasive translatable imaging modality. Compared to other imaging modalities it has the advantage that it does not require the use of contrast agents or potentially damaging radiation. Recent developments by Luxonus have also enabled easy interpretation of complex datasets resulting in highly detailed 3D tomography, which was previously not possible.
Using their patented hemispherical acoustic array they can generate high sensitivity 2D and 3D anatomically correct images comparable to MRI and CT. We present this new technology demonstrating it’s advantages and also examples of small animal imaging.
Luxonus already have approval for their technology as a clinical imaging technology. This makes the Luxonus photoacoustic imaging systems a true translatable technology.
